As part of International School Library Month, the School Library Network (RBE) launched, on October 1st, the open and free online course "Management and Organization of the Digital Collection," aimed at teacher-librarians and library technicians.
The exponential growth of digital resources (e-books, databases, repositories, curation platforms, and institutional social networks) presents new challenges to school libraries. This MOOC addresses a need identified by the National Reading Network (RBE) in the support provided by inter-municipal coordinators to teacher-librarians throughout the country. It seeks to offer a practical solution for the selection, organization, and availability of digital collections, understood as an integral part of a hybrid collection.
The course, lasting 15 hours and allowing participants to attend at their own pace, is organized into five modules:
- Introduction to the management and organization of a digital collection;
- Types and formats of digital documents;
- Digital collection management;
- Organization and description of the digital collection;
- Repositories and dissemination of digital educational resources.
By the end, participants should be able to define and apply criteria for selecting and evaluating digital resources, design a digital collection development policy tailored to their institution, organize and describe digital resources, and identify the main legal issues associated with this type of resource.
The course is hosted on NAU, a public, free, and certified platform, guaranteeing equitable access throughout the country at no cost to participants. A passing grade of 70% or higher entitles participants to a Digital Certificate of Completion.
