About EduQA
The Institute for Education, Quality and Evaluation (EduQA, IP) is a public institute under a special regime, integrated into the indirect administration of the State, endowed with pedagogical, scientific, administrative and financial autonomy.
Created by Decree-Law No. 105/2025, of September 12, EduQA aims to ensure the implementation of educational policies in the areas of curriculum, pedagogy, didactics and external assessment of learning, contributing to the continuous improvement of the quality of the Portuguese education system.
Its scope encompasses early childhood education, primary and secondary education, including specialized arts education, vocational training, adult education, and extracurricular education.
Mission
To promote quality, equity, and continuous improvement in learning through the implementation and monitoring of educational policies, technical support to schools and teachers, independent management of external evaluation, and the enhancement of fundamental skills for the holistic development of students.
Areas of expertise
Curriculum development and pedagogical support
Support for the definition, implementation and monitoring of the curriculum, pedagogical and didactic practices, promoting innovation, inclusion and educational equity.
External assessment of learning
Design, validation, application and analysis of national tests and exams, as well as participation in international evaluation studies, ensuring technical and scientific rigor and independence.
Innovation and digital transition in education
Promoting the pedagogical, ethical, and responsible use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.
Promoting reading and school libraries.
Coordination and support for the School Library Network and the National Reading Plan, as essential instruments for the development of reading skills and educational success.
