GERAt – Territory, Talent, Tourism is an educational initiative promoted by Turismo de Portugal, in partnership with EduQA, IP, that transforms the local territory into a learning context. Starting from where they live, students explore the territory and identify its challenges, investigate local heritage, culture and resources, in contact with the community, and create value-adding proposals associated with sustainable and regenerative tourism, such as itineraries, products, experiences and digital platforms. This approach favors project work and curricular articulation around meaningful challenges.
Covering various levels of education, from primary school to secondary school, GERAt develops skills such as critical thinking, creativity, citizenship, and a sense of belonging, and can contribute to the achievement of different Sustainable Development Goals. To support schools, it provides its own resources—an educational kit, an educational game, and teacher training—and values student work through regional stages and a national final. The goal is to train citizen-tourists: young people aware of the value of the place where they live and capable of transforming it.
Featured on the European platform Transition Pathways for Tourism and the international educational innovation platform HundrED, GERAt has been gaining national and international recognition.
