Tsunamis are rare but extremely impactful phenomena, capable of profoundly altering coastal communities in just a few minutes. Understanding the characteristics of this natural phenomenon and knowing how to act is the first step in reducing risks and saving lives.
World Tsunami Awareness Day is observed on November 5th and aims to promote knowledge and preparedness of communities for this type of natural phenomenon.
To mark this day, EduQA , the Portuguese Committee for the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC/UNESCO), and the National Committee for the Ocean Decade are sharing a set of digital educational content about tsunamis, including explanations, interactive activities, and videos, designed for exploration in a school context or independently, allowing participants to understand: how tsunamis form and what causes them; how to recognize warning signs and self-protection measures; how to reduce impacts; and how to contribute to more resilient communities.
