A Law No. 47/2006, Law No. 11,846 of August 28, in its current wording, establishes the evaluation and certification of school textbooks, with the aim of guaranteeing their scientific and pedagogical quality, their conformity with the current curricular reference documents for the respective subjects, and their suitability as a tool to support teaching and promote educational success.

For the application of this regime, the aforementioned Law, combined with the Decree-Law No. 5/2014, Decree-Law No. 14 of January 14, in its current wording and which regulates it, provides for the operationalization of the procedure for evaluating and certifying school textbooks, including, in particular, the accreditation of evaluating and certifying entities, in accordance with Articles 6, 7 and 11 of the aforementioned Decree-Law.

The accreditation procedure begins with the publication of the respective opening notice(s) on the website of the Institute of Education, Quality and Evaluation, IP (EduQA, IP), with applications submitted in accordance with the applicable notices, defined by subject, cycle and school year.
