On 26 June, at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon, the closing event of the multinational project (Bulgaria and Portugal) “Improving the quality of early childhood education and care through strengthened governance, monitoring and evaluation” will take place, with the possibility of participation online.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation and the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security submitted an application to Technical Support Instrument (TSI) Programme, from the European Commission, with the aim of developing this project, lasting two years (2024/2026), which had the purpose of creating a National Quality Reference for Early Childhood Education (0-6 years), in line with the commitments made by Portugal within the European framework.

In Portugal, under the leadership of the two Ministries, the project was implemented by UNICEF with the support of Iscte, in cooperation with the European Commission.

As this was a collaborative and participatory project, a Working Group was formed with the participation of approximately 50 members, including representatives from the two Ministries, social partners, researchers, professional associations, foundations, and other entities involved in early childhood education.

The event will bring together key stakeholders to present the project's main results and challenges, as well as to reflect on lessons learned and perspectives for the future.

JNE/EduQA Communication – Summary of the reassessment process of the 1st phase

The process of reviewing the first phase of the 2026 national examinations has been a major challenge for the entities responsible for the process, namely the National Examination Board, school administrations, examination secretariats, and teachers responsible for marking. In the current academic year, more than 21,000 requests for review of first-phase exam papers were submitted, more than triple the number of requests submitted last year.
