Review of Essential Learnings

The revision of the Essential Learning Outcomes for basic and secondary education is the result of a work process developed throughout 2025 that integrated the analysis and contributions of curriculum development specialists, experts in the disciplines and subject areas, as well as scientific and professional teachers' associations. EduQA, IP, ensures its availability and this public consultation. It is also important to mention that, in a phase prior to this consultation, changes were introduced to the Essential Learning Outcomes for the initial years of each cycle (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 10th grades), which were subject to pre-implementation in selected schools. The contributions collected from the teachers involved are reflected in this version.

In the course of this process, on the one hand, the introduction and operationalization section of the Essential Learnings were updated, including the revision and clarification of content, the reformulation of domains and themes, the updating of learning descriptors, and the reorganization of strategic teaching actions. On the other hand, new sections were introduced, namely the one relating to assessment, with the definition of performance descriptors and guidelines for their operationalization, and the section on articulation with the dimensions of Citizenship Education, which includes proposals of a pedagogical-didactic nature.

For a more detailed understanding of this review, please refer to... framework document.

Continuing with the objective of participatory construction of the documents now under consultation, and without prejudice to prioritizing an analysis directed at the specific curricular knowledge that characterizes teachers, the possibility of participation by institutions or entities is also foreseen.

Therefore, those interested should submit their contributions through... form available.

Thank you very much for your cooperation.

Building Essential Learning Outcomes based on student profiles: Review and Update

Framework The Essential Learnings (ELs), approved in 2018, have established themselves as the common national reference for what all students should learn throughout compulsory schooling, assuming a curricular format that is “less prescriptive but more guiding” [1], framing the learnings foreseen for each subject or subject area of the curriculum in the Student Profile document […]
