Frequently Asked Questions
The Institute for Education, Quality and Evaluation, IP (EduQA) is a public institute responsible for ensuring the implementation and monitoring of educational policies in the areas of curriculum, pedagogy, didactics and external assessment of learning, contributing to the continuous improvement of the quality of the Portuguese education system.
EduQA, IP was created to strengthen the quality, equity, and coherence of educational policies, integrating into a single institute areas that were previously distributed across different organizations.
Its creation allows for greater coordination between curriculum, pedagogy and assessment, more consistent technical support for schools and teachers, and a more effective response to current and future educational challenges, such as pedagogical innovation, digital transition and Artificial Intelligence.
The responsibilities previously held by the Institute for Educational Assessment (IAVE), the Directorate-General for Education (DGE), the Mission Structure of the National Reading Plan, and the Coordinating Office of the School Libraries Network, as well as the competencies of the National Agency for Qualification and Vocational Education (ANQEP) regarding the dual certification of young people and the qualification of adults, have been integrated into EduQA, IP.
This integration allows for a more comprehensive, coherent, and effective view of educational policies.
EduQA, IP operates in key areas of the education system, namely:
- Curriculum development and pedagogical support;
- technical support for schools and teachers;
- Independent management of external learning assessment;
- coordination of national participation in international studies of
- assessment;
- Promoting educational innovation, digital transition, and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence;
- Promoting reading and coordinating school libraries.
EduQA, IP's activities include:
- Early childhood education (from 0 to 6 years old);
- Basic education and secondary education;
- specialized artistic education;
- vocational education;
- adult education;
- extracurricular education.
The websites of previously existing entities will remain accessible during a transition period. Updated institutional information and ongoing initiatives will be disseminated by EduQA, IP.
